State guide workflow
- Identify the controlling state statute or regulation and its current version.
- Check official agency guidance for definitions, procedures and recent changes.
- Record trigger dates, deadlines, exceptions, documentation rules and local-law caveats.
- Build the plain-English page and link directly to the official source.
- Only then mark the page as verified and allow search indexing.
Company guide workflow
We separate company-published fee information from regulator, court or enforcement records. Company pages focus on documents a renter can compare with a quote, lease, ledger or move-out statement. A company name never substitutes for state-specific legal analysis.
Calculator methodology
Calculators use simple transparent arithmetic or verified state timing rules. If a state rule is too conditional for a safe calendar calculation, the tool says so instead of producing a misleading date.
What “verified” means
“Verified” means the legal or official-source layer for the page was checked against the cited source when the page was last reviewed. It does not guarantee that a rule has not changed since that date or that the general rule applies to every property or tenancy.
Local law
Many cities and counties add renter protections. State pages identify this risk, but users should confirm local rules when the property is in a jurisdiction with additional housing regulation.
