Move-Out Bill Audit

Before disputing the entire final balance, check whether the statement, ledger, deposit credit, evidence and lease records are complete enough for a line-by-line review. Then open the exact state source and next tool that matches the gap.

This is a readiness audit, not a legal score.

A complete file can still contain a disputed or incorrect charge. A missing record does not prove misconduct. The audit simply shows what can be tested now and what should be requested or reconciled next.

Audit the record before the accusation.

This tool checks whether the final statement, account math, deposit credit, evidence and lease records are ready for a line-by-line move-out review.

Diagnostic workflow only. The audit identifies missing records and the next review step; it does not determine whether a move-out charge is lawful, accurate or collectible.

Why the final statement is only the starting point

A final statement tells you what the landlord claims. The resident ledger tells you whether the ending balance includes the correct payments, credits and deposit. Photos, inspections, invoices and other records address the support behind individual claims. The lease and state source layer answer different contract and legal-procedure questions.

Why the deposit credit needs its own check

A move-out balance can look much larger or smaller depending on whether the security deposit was applied correctly. Rebuild the charges and the deposit credit separately before treating the remaining balance as a single disputed number.

Use state law after the account is organized

All 50 states have verified RentBillCheck source layers, but the relevant rule can involve different deadlines, deduction standards, itemization requirements, forwarding-address conditions, inspection procedures or local-jurisdiction caveats. The audit routes to the property-state guide without forcing every state into one generic rule.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Move-Out Bill Audit check?

It checks whether you have five core review layers: a final statement or itemization, a reconciled ledger, a clear security-deposit credit, evidence for the major charges and the lease or relevant addenda.

Does a missing document mean the landlord charge is invalid?

No. A missing or unclear record means the charge is harder to verify from the information available. It is not proof by itself that the charge is unlawful, inaccurate or uncollectible.

Why audit the ledger separately from the individual charges?

The account balance can be mathematically wrong even when a charge has support, and a disputed charge can remain even when the ledger arithmetic is correct. Those are different review questions.

What if the landlord bill is larger than my security deposit?

Rebuild the full statement after applying the deposit credit, then review each remaining line separately. A balance greater than the deposit does not by itself show whether the underlying claims are supported.

What if the balance is already in collections?

Keep reviewing the original landlord ledger and move-out charges, but treat collector validation and any credit-report issue as separate downstream processes.

Already have the full final statement?

Rebuild the balance before arguing the charge.

Separate individual claims, payments, credits and the security deposit so the dispute can focus on the exact unsupported line.
