Iowa Security Deposit Rules (2026)

Iowa Code § 562A.12 caps a rental deposit at two months’ rent. The landlord must return the deposit or provide a written statement within 30 days after termination of the tenancy and receipt of the tenant’s mailing address or delivery instructions.
