Nevada Nonrefundable Cleaning Charge

Nevada generally does not allow a security deposit to be labeled nonrefundable, but NRS 118A.242 expressly preserves an agreement for a reasonable nonrefundable cleaning charge. That makes the lease language and the nature of the payment important.

Identify which payment you made

A separately disclosed nonrefundable cleaning charge should not be confused with a refundable security deposit that is later reduced for actual cleaning costs. Review the label, amount and lease disclosure.

Separate the payment type from the deduction. Nevada treats cash deposits, surety bonds, last month’s rent and a possible nonrefundable cleaning charge differently. Educational information only.
