MAA tells renters to add required fees to base rent

Current MAA property pages state that required one-time and recurring fees are charged in addition to base rent and instruct renters to add required and selected optional fees to determine monthly fixed cost.

The monthly fee mix changes by property

Examples across Tennessee, Arizona and North Carolina show different MAA Connect amounts and different additional recurring charges. Do not copy a fee amount from another MAA community.

Utilities are a separate layer

MAA notes that residents pay monthly utilities under the lease. A Utility Admin Fee, when listed, is a separate fixed fee from electricity, gas, water or sewer usage.

Audit the quote in three buckets

  • Base rent.
  • Required fixed recurring fees.
  • Variable utility and optional costs.
